2020 ROBOTICS OLYMPICS LIVE STREAMING FINALS

The National Finals of the Italian Robotics Olympics, a project promoted by the Italian Ministry of Education and organized by Scuola di Robotica, will take place online with live streaming on June 30, 2020, from 10 to 13 and from 14:30 to 18.

It will be possible to follow the entire event from this link: it is https://www.olimpiadirobotica.it/live/

The Robotics Olympics is a competition dedicated to high school students whose theme in the 2019-2020 edition is environmental sustainability.

The selected projects that will be presented in the Final have identified solutions for environmental protection through robots operating in the water, terrestrial or aerial environments.

There will be three winners, one for each category: water, air, and land.

In the final phase, there was a hackathon among the teams that, not being able to meet in presence because of COVID-19,  collaborated online in Alliances formed by three teams.

The Alliances’ projects will be presented during the live broadcast on the morning of June 30th.

The live streaming will be delivered from, at the headquarters of Liguria Digitale whose CEO, Paolo Piccini, will greet the teams and the public together withal  the group of operators of Scuola Digitale Liguria.

The streaming will be opened by Prof. Anna Brancaccio from MIUR, Emanuele Micheli from Scuola di Robotica and the Councillor of the Liguria Region, Ilaria Cavo, and will be closed by Ulla Engelmann, Director of the Advanced Technologies, Cluster and Social Economy Unit at DG GROWTH of the European Commission and by robotics scientist Bruno Siciliano from the University of Naples Federico II.

Many guests will attend the event. Among the robotics, besides Bruno Siciliano, Antonio Bicchi from the University of Pisa and IIT, President of I-RIM (Institute of Robotics and Intelligent Machines); Lucia Pallottino from the Research Centre “E. Piaggio” and the University of Pisa; David Scaradozzi from the Polytechnic University of Marche and the robotics scientists and founder of Roboethics, Gianmarco Veruggio.

Lorenzo Marconi of DEI of Bologna will talk about the European project Airborne for the development of drones for the rapid localization of victims buried by avalanches; the researcher Marco Tranzatto will present the robot ANYmal for rescue European project, during a live test.

Inspiring Guests will give a special contribution: Maria Sole Bianco, marine biologist and president of Worldrise, which from 2013 develops projects for the conservation and enhancement of the marine environment.  Boyan Slat, the young man who is dedicated to defending the ocean, has sent us the videos of Ocean Cleanup‘s operations, of which he is the founder.

Speakers during the live broadcast will be Giulia Ghiretti, para Olympics, silver and bronze in Rio, a bioengineering student; the engineer Emilia Garito, founder of Quantum Leap, inventor and innovation expert; Alessandro Cricchio, co-founder and CEO of the Genoese campus Talent Garden and Maria Grazia Mattei, founder of MEET The Media Guru, the first centre for digital culture.

Emanuele Castagno of RINA will talk about environmental protection; Maria Elena Artusi of Costa Crociera Foundation about their project “Guardiani della Costa” for the monitoring of Italian coasts by students; Francesca Spotorno of the Ecological Services Port of Genoa; Giancarlo Reschigna Venturini, Head of Sustainability Reporting at Maire Tecnimont and Mario Pagani, who was IT Environment Manager at A2A.

Ana-Maria Stancu from RoboHub Romania will explain how robots can help us face the COVID-19 pandemic and Pasquale Striano from the Pediatric Institute “Giannina Gaslini” will talk about the project that has seen a humanoid robot, NAO, cheer and engage young patients from the Department of Pediatric Neurology and Muscular Diseases.

The whole day will be dedicated to reflecting on how robotics can improve the quality of life of humans and the planet and how it can be a creative and satisfying profession for young people.

The School of Robotics has been promoting robotics as a driver of lifelong education and a new type of professional updating for about 20 years. Without forgetting that every new technology opens up problems and risks that the same, if well developed, can help us to face.
