REXASI-PRO: a robotics project for people with reduce mobility

School of Robotics is an active participant in the European Commission’s Horizon project REXASI-PRO (an acronym for Reliable & Explainable Swarm Intelligence for People with Reduced Mobility) in identifying the ethical, legal and social aspects of the robotic systems used in the project.

REXASI-PRO is a project funded by the European Commission under the HORIZON- Research and Innovation Actions program, which aims to provide support for people with reduced mobility through autonomous and reliable social navigation systems based on Artificial Intelligence. Smart wheelchairs, equipped with reliable on-board sensors, will be trained with navigation algorithms in indoor and outdoor environments. The project, which started on October 1, 2022, will be completed in three years, with a closing date set for September 30, 2025.

The project is coordinated by Spindox Labs.

The goal of REXASI-PRO is to produce an engineering framework to support autonomous wheelchairs for people with reduced mobility. Smart wheelchairs, equipped with reliable on-board sensors, will be trained with navigation algorithms in both indoor and outdoor environments. Smart drones will collaborate with smart wheelchairs to correctly map environments and accurately monitor any fixed or moving entity.
