Genoa: The I Feel Good project in the library… with robots

I FEEL GOOD in the library- Robot@Library

E. De Amicis” International Children’s Library – Genoa

Online presentation conference: 16 May 2024 at 4 p.m.

The project I FEEL GOOD in the library, which started in March 2024, sponsored and organised by the Urban Library System of the Municipality of Genoa, and financed by the Department for Youth Policies and Universal Civil Service of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, comes to life.

The project will involve, in the first phase, young people aged between 14 and 18 who will receive specific training to become mentors for younger people; to select them, the collaboration of the educational institutes of Genoa and its Province, of first and second grade secondary schools and of many associations dealing with youth policies will be requested.

The online meeting on Thursday 16 May 2024 (in Italian) dedicated to schools and associations, will be an opportunity to find out all the details of I FEEL GOOD in the library, an original and engaging project that responds to a need felt strongly, especially by the younger generations: that of finding opportunities for socialising and meeting spaces where they can express their ideas, get involved and increase their skills. For this reason, three Genoese libraries (De Amicis, Cervetto, Benzi), each with its own part of the project, will get involved with young people to experiment a change of approach and use of their spaces, proposing them as places for interaction, socialisation and shared construction of content.

To achieve this objective, and in continuity with projects already implemented, the International Library for Kids and Teens “E. De Amicis” proposes – in collaboration with Scuola di Robotica – a year of courses, experiments and activities dedicated to young people aged 14-18, in which the traditional use of the Library will be associated with many new digital and robotic tools for the promotion of reading and storytelling.

The teens will be asked to find their own way of ‘reading and narrating’ the world, experimenting and creating new storytelling possibilities with the use of various digital and robotic programmes and devices.

The challenging objective of the project proposal is to make the library become even more of a hybrid space between paper and digital, between physical and virtual, a training and experimentation hub for children and all educational figures with a view to building an inclusive cultural community.

The project started in March with the work organisation activities; the preparatory phase will continue during the summer months in the ‘E. De Amicis’ library and then, from September 2024, classes and associations will be involved in the courses, which will employ various digital devices and the NAO robots. The activities will end in late February 2025.
